The breakdown goes like this:

The user starts a station from an artist page of users liking. The formula is set so a long queue of tracks directly linked to artist is put on display. The songs played result in a combination of similar genre music along with new and popular records. The good news is the tracks are skippable and frequently updated and refreshed.

For the dedicated listeners, Soundcloud will recommend stations based on the artist the user likes, or previoulsy played. The newcomers will experience the streaming platform introducing some starter suggestions.

The good fight is converting Soundcloud's 175 million FREE users to its paid subscription Soundcloud Go. The service has only been around since March of this year. It will be interesting to see what other avenue they will try to make the users see the montetary value.
