"Networking is not collecting contacts. Networking is about planting relations." And where else better to cultivate those niche relationships than at an IdOMusic® event? Every third Sunday, IdOMusic® hosts Social Sessions, a music industry specific event packed with opportunities to meet individuals with common goals, gain insight on how to perfect your craft, and feed off of the passion wafting in the room.

The most recent Social Session was hosted at The Music Room.

Upon arrival each attendee was gifted a raffle ticket, a name tag, and a sharpie with the instructions to write your name, professional title, and social media handle on the tag—optimizing your time & avoiding embarrassment for forgotten names. After the event's partaker filled out their name tag, they were met with Mike, IdOMusic®/Patchwerk studio's videographer. With his camera hoisted upon his shoulder, each participant had an opportunity to give their shameless plug, announcing their professional contribution to the industry and where they can be found on the interwebs.

An early arrival proved beneficial as the bubbly event host, Tracy—announced raffle giveaways sponsored by Native Instruments, JBL, EXL Creative and of course Patchwerk Studios. The night opened up with spotlight interviews that inquired the services the interviewee provides, how they heard about IdOMusic® and their plan to impact the music industry. Just 15 minutes into the event, the room knew there was a hip hop artist, a Christian artist, a producer, a songwriter, an electronic engineer, and a rap duo who was releasing a mixtape at the end of the month revealing just a sliver of the value present in the room—just a sliver.

"There are a million studios in Atlanta, but how many are giving back to the community and empowering young industry professionals?" Osman Bangura, the brand manager of IdOMusic®, broadcasted to the audience, "It's all about networking" Bangura declared. "We are aware of those that are successfully on top, but YOU are up next. Utilize the network that is provided to you here tonight." The importance of conversing with the people in the room couldn't have been stressed enough and before Bangura stepped off the stage he stated, "if you haven't met at least five people tonight, come see me." Implying even the most timid individual present, had no reason to exclude themselves from establishing business relationships.

The night proceeded with entertainment as networkers listened to 90 second snippets of dirty south/trap producer B-Rex's music who frankly described his beats as "bangs hard," and producer Kito Gavin who creates chill step and dance music. Sayso, a local artist, had the energized the audience as he performed his original music along with Sean T, a representative of 107.9 Battlegrounds.

Social Session Sundays concluded with a discussion with Tamiko Hope, writer and publicist for Big Boi, Nipsey Hustle, and Sonny Digital. Hope spoke on her experiences in the industry and the importance of obtaining press—even if your budget is slim. "Start writing for self. Create your own movement. Keep at it and keep improving. Opportunities will come but most importantly, you must be prepared." Hope strongly suggested, preparedness is what will carry the young industry professional to the next level.

With such priceless advice and a multitude of opportunities to network with a variety of professionals, guests left the Music Room feeling empowered. If you've never attended an IdOMusic® event, you are missing out. Be sure to register for the next Social Session Sunday event (as well as other upcoming events) as Osman Bangura assured, this is only the beginning and "get ready for what [IdOMusic®] has in store for the New Year."
