Oz Banga

Oz Banga

Decided a long time ago to live life banging. Everything has been on autopilot since!

Thankful for all the great music being released as 2016 comes to an end and the streak continues with Yasiin Bey's 'December 99th' album. After going through much drama with South Africa where he has been detained since top of the year for attempting to leave country with a world passport. He has now been deemed an "undesirable person" by the country's home affairs department and will not be allowed to return.

The unfortunate events have led to new music solely produced with Ferrari Sheppard. The entire project was recorded in South Africa. Long time fans of Yasiin will rejoice to hear new music. The project is streaming on Tidal and tonight you can watch the exclusive concert.  With such a story behind the music would it make you want to listen to the album more or does it matter? Give the album and listen and share comments .

I checked my Twitter trending topics and wondered why I seen both Chance The Rapper and Jeremih's names going crazy. Well looks like the two dropped a Christmas project around 2am this morning. Titled 'Merry Christmas Lil Mama'  the duo have surprised attacked the world. The Chicago natives dedicated the tape to the Windy City.

Unless you literally live under a rock attached to a gigantic tree you know Patchwerk Recording Studios has 21 years of history behind them. Keep in mind everything we do through IdOMUSIC is powered by their network. Studio owner Curtis Daniel III decided to reach into the archives of some of the great interviews our clients have conducted over the years.

If you have ever tuned in to watch HBO's comedy series Insecure, then you might have been entertained by the music which punctuates particular scenes thanks to no other than Solange Knowles? In a time where the soundtracks don't really receive the love as once before, Insecure has no problem fulfilling the void. The creator and star of show Issa Rae understands creating the vibe for the show and the characters associated with it.

The show can be described according to The L.A. Times: The half-hour series explores the friendship between two African American women who deal with their sometimes stormy relationship while also grappling with conflicts inside and outside black culture. Much of the humor has a raw flavor, and does not hold back on sexually frank situations and dialogue."

The final Tight 32 contest of 2016 was intense as always and when the smoke cleared our winner was Preme. We always get asked the question, "Do the beats have to be trap?" My answer every time is submit your sound.  The issue I believe is most haven't found it yet. When you think about Patchwerk Recording Studios the underlining theme should be we are a professional recording studio. We are proficient in sound. Send us your best because that is what we expect 100% of the time. The emcees are going to paint the picture but the canvas is set up by the producer.  The production this month came from our first winner ever of the Tight 32 contest in January Kanagroo809.  Check out how the winning emcee Preme handled his production. Interview with Preme coming up end of week.

Video: Gucci Mane and Travis Scott - Last Time

One thing we know about Gucci Mane is he will consistently drop music. He released a new visual for his recent collaboration with Travis Scott called Last Time produced by Zaytoven. After watching this video I feel we will see more visuals utilizing night vision. All they needed was a wintery night, a vehicle they could lift up, light on fire and drop swag on the record! Directed by and starring Harmony Korine who is the man behind Spring Breakers and the cult classic Kids(do your internet research!)

Social media has become the messenger for all information good or bad. Well this past Friday November 25th our @idomusiconline and @patchwerkstudio Twitter and Instagram timeline was flooded from select industry influencers about the passing of a very well respected brother named Mel Carter. People follow the entertainers but rarely know the story of the management who make the moves in the background. Mel Carter was a standup individual and respected on numerous levels.

The monthly contest designed for hip hop producers and emcees took place Thursday, November 17th at the legendary Patchwerk Recording Studios. 12 emcees signed up and only a few were able to complete the task of spitting 32 bars within the 15 minute time frame. The winner of our producer portion  Kangaroo809 was the selected winner of the month beating out 12 other producers for the monthly title. This is actually Kangaroo's second time winning this year. Each emcee took a different approach and delivered heat. We want you to check out the verses and let us know who was the best out of the group. Simply leave comments below.

Steve Rifkind Is Looking For Talent

Steve Rifkind is a music entrepreneur responsible for birthing Loud Records which was home to hip hop notables Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Three Six Mafia, Big Punisher and more in the early 90's. His history in the music biz is not up for discussion as the accolades speak for themselves. He pretty much invented street team promotions which is a lost art in today's game. Looks like he is cooking up something sweet for 2017 and you might want to get involved.

Known for his righteous messages in the music, Common delivers another socially conscious track named 'Black America Again' Remix along with Gucci Mane, Pusha T, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Common recently released his 11th LP and couldn't have came at a better time. The message is strong and to the point with his recent single. Is it far fetched to demand more records in this tone for the people? The truth twisted into rhyme but can be digested by numerous walks of life? This is an opportunity I'm anxious to see and hear but how will the people respond?
