Just when I thought I was living, Drake came around and gave me “More Life”.

Not only did the 22 song album touch base with well-known artists like Kanye but gave us a taste of the Grime music scene that most Americans aren’t familiar with.

“More Life” is filled with artists including Giggs, Sampha and Skepta who are based in London/UK and are considered a part of “Grime” music. Grime has been around since the early 2000s and draws from hip-hop, Jamaican dancehall and the UK garage sound.

You probably got around to the 8th song of the album and wondered who ARE these people.

Drake went as far as giving these artists a huge chunk of his album with songs and interludes that barely acknowledge HIM. For example on “4422” featuring Sampha (when it should really be Sampha featuring Drake) Drake is nowhere to be found and gives Sampha the entire song to do his thing and continues to do that throughout the entire album.

Just as A&R and Creative Director for Epic Records Sickamore emphasized at the first Patchwerk showcase of 2017, features are one of the most important factors of an album. Sickamore explains how features can broaden your audience and help you to market and reach people you wouldn’t usually. He gave an example of how YG, a west coast artist would need to feature rappers such as Rich Homie Quan or T.I. to connect with the south.

Drake not only introduced Americans to a new sound but proves how features can make you internationally recognizable.

Artists like Sampha and Skepta will no longer go unnoticed in America and I'm sure we will be hearing allot more from them.

On a scale of one to ten, this album is a 9.5.
